After the sHaMoZzLe
TC and AK went down to the Para for a few games of pool, then ventured up to the 3MDR transmitter
site in Kallista to check the signal was OK. TC also checked up on the horses.
Later on we caught up with Miller Guerrilla , a local fire spotter for the DSE .We will be talking
more to Miller as the fire season gets closer.

Today on the Merv Skilton Show we spoke  to Peter Laffy, former member of Ross Wilson's
Mondo Rock and now playing with The Kingbees, live in the studio.
The Kingbees are playing at the 3MDR Benefit gig this Saturday
at the Burrinja Centre , 351 Glenfern Rd Upwey.
Peter brought in  in some live recordings from the Mondo Rock days
and stayed around for Merv's Radio Idol. It was a pleasure to have
Pete as a guest of 3MDR and we will definatley do it again soon.

While Trev was driving up the hill listening to the sHaMoZzLe , on the way to the show,
Anton nuded up and luckily for us,  Jodie was on hand so to capture one single secret snapshot of the event for  sHaMoZzLe.com

Today also marked the beginning of the '3MDR 2005 Radiothon'
We had a great start to the campaign with Frank Stone requesting a consession Membership,
even though we thought he had a job, as well as Mark from Nissan renewing his and also
we welcome the lads from Baron Re-Stumping on board with a Group Membership.
We also had a call from George G. Stringopoulos  . 'Gee' is currently spending a lot of time
at Merv's place in Mirboo with Paris Skilton, Merv's teenage daughter.
( Paris is not to be confused with the Hilton Hotel Chain heiress, Paris Hilton )
Young Paris is the heiress to Merv's ( proposed )  Skilton Motel Chain
 ( including the Mirboo South 'Skilton'  and the Moe 'Skilton' Motels)

  Cal Bastard on vocals... Jimmie on guitar...
Cashie on drums... and Mr Bertwhistle on the bass
delivered a  blistering set of rock at the Arthouse on Saturday Night.
They blazed away for 30 minutes of great original  rock with attitude.
TC went down and met the band... a seven track EP is available which includes
'Drinking & Fighting'
These fellas play a style of rock music that is passionate, explosive and original.
The rhythm section is tight and relentlessly powerful.  Jimmie plays  a Les Paul Through a Marshall Head / Quadbox rig and he
has to be seen to be believed. Gutsy, fast , and tasteful playing providing both rythmic power and melodic colour.
Cal Bastard on vocals rounds out this powerhouse of a band.

Merv has brought back to life one of Oz Rocks greatest songs and completely bastardised it.
Richard Clapton's 'Capricorn Dancer' ' got the Merv treatment today, twice.
Merv is coming along quite well on the Spanish Guitar but he still needs a few tips on singing,
particularly when it comes to melody. He has not got any idea what a melody is at this time.

Anton  could not get the original Goldie Hawn  number he was chasing...
but wore a lovely late 60's orange frock on the show.
I guess you had to be there... but there is some photographic evidence below.
Trev reckons he did his dough on the Twigley ebay transaction but we suspect foulplay by 'The Professor'
who has been sighted in Emerald recently impersonating Cyrilette from the Friday Breakfast Lounge.
Congratulations go to  Maria from Maria's Mix (Monday 10am 3MDR)  for winning
 AK's Movie Charades
 by correctly naming 'The interrogation scene' from 'Basic Instinct' featuring Sharon Stone.
Jodie & Trev suggest Anton wear some underwear next year.

Anon K & TheTecoma Cowboy  caught  up with  Barley Scotch, The Rev. Dale Reno,
his banjo pluckin' twin brother & the young bloke on bass.

TC recently caught up on the phone with Gary Young.
Gary is currently busy working on the upcoming
'The Daddy Cool Story' DVD.
  We have  lined up Gary for a live visit to 3MDR early in the New Year.
He has been involved in the Melbourne music scene since his teens and  has played
drums with  some of the biggest names in Oz Rock, from Bobby and Laurie, Daddy Cool,
Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons, The Black Sorrows, Cold Chisel, and many more . We look forward to
having a regular chat to Gary on the Merv Skilton Show.

The Tecoma Cowboy ventured into town on a cold and rainy Friday night to see
 Brian Baker and his band at The Rainbow Hotel in Fitzroy.
TC said of the night: ' I had a few quiet ales, met up with an 'old' friend , and also with Dave Walker who is playing bass
in Brian's band. What more could a bloke ask for?'
'I met Brian,Ella,Fallon & Mark from the band as well'
'Be on the lookout for this band around Melbourne venues. A very good night out was had.'

Anton K & The Tecoma Cowboy failed to 'Frock up' today due to delays in delivery
of their Frocks. TC is awaiting delivery of a one-off  'Rebecca Twigley ' Brownlow Medal Edition
knock-off  replica of the infamous red dress that was featured 27 times in the Herald Sun & The Age newspapers before we  stopped counting.Chris Judd,
the Brownlow Medal winner in 2004 managed less than 10 photos in the same period.
 Trev hopes it will arrive before the end of FrOcKtObEr.
AK is currently eyeing off a Goldie Hawn 'Laugh-In '   Replica Frock.

We also have our other family take away,

We were  proud to bring you the Annual
Springvale Spring Roll Eating Contest.
Last year we unfortunately had an incident when
a contestant was announced dead on arrival at hospital
after consuming only one Shi Brand  Spring Roll.
The headline said ' Man eats Shi and dies'.
This was bad for business,  so the  contest has
been cancelled till further notice.

I co-host the show with TC - The Tecoma Cowboy and the other nancy boy, my estranged
cousin Anton K, from the sHaMoZzLe Morning Crew

Hello ladies (and Nancy Boys) My name is Merv Skilton and I welcome you to my site.
My mates call me Big Merv. You can call me Mr.Skilton.
I grow award winning tomato plants,which have won 1 st prize in the 'Best Crop' in
the last 3 years at Royal Mirboo Show.Unfortunately the publicity generated
by this was responsible for some unwanted attention by certain people
who arranged a nice holiday for meat a well known Barwon 'Hostel'.

As luck would have it, back in late 2003 , one of my bouncers, Frank Stone , knew a bloke called Trev ,
aka  'TC' The Tecoma Cowboy, who was threatening to do a radio show.
Soon my people were in negotiation with TC's  people and the Debut Episode of
The Merv Skilton Show went to air on New Years Day 2004.
The Merv Skilton Show was born.

      After some 'negotiations' between my Barrister and the Judge , in late 2004 I was awarded 400 hours
                                  of Community Service by the nice Judge which meant I could get back to Mirboo South to
  my loving wife Shirley, and the 2 kids,Marvyn my young lad, and my beautiful daughter , Paris.
The downside is I had to do this Radio Show once a week with these Nancy boys.

TC took over the panel at 10 AM from Big Al, who had done 14 hours on air, playing all country music classics overnight
on New Years Eve. 'TC' did the show solo for nearly a year and got caught up with Anton ,
and Noh Shi from the sHaMoZzLe  Crew and they kept the show goinguntil I was able to negotiate my C.B.O.
( Community Based Order ) and was allowed to  finally meet TC and the gang and take over hosting duties myself.

I made my debut live in the studio on 22/12/2004, show number 52.
Trev and Anton still come into 3MDR and help out with production duties.
(They bring the music in , run the panel, and plan the show.)

I'm back in Mirboo South now, just near Mirboo North, located in South Gippsland, Victoria.
I have got most of my businesses back on track. I'm very busy with my wrecking yard, ('Merv's Midnight Spares' )
and car re-birthing centre ( ''Just like a bought one' Motors'), my brewing ventures (Mervyn Cider),
 my team of bouncers, as well as my horticultural activities,not to mention my expanding list of construction projects.
(Giant Stubbie Garage, Esky shaped Entertainment Area,and my latest controversial venture,
 'The Giant Mo - The Gateway to Mirboo', a giant moustach walk bridge
over the road just outside Mirboo South (Subject to Council Approval)

I still have time to help those in the community who have had the unfortunate
luck to find themselves  facing losing a cold beverage to the elements
or even menacing crocodiles in the deep north of Australia.
I am known in some circles as The Beer Hunter.

Finally, after serving my 400 hours of Community Service broadcasting at 3MDR , my CBO is now finished.
I was contemplating retiring from the media after mylast official show on Wednesday21/7/2005,
but due to an unprecedented display of public support during the show and over the following days,
I have decided to continue to do the  show .Besides, the Nancy's (Anton and Trev)  are starting to grow on me,
and I should be able to slip in a few free plugs for  my business projects,  as well  as  catching up
with the crew at the Paradise Hotel in Clematis.

Early in the New Year I will be speaking On Air to one of Australia's finest musical talents,
Geoff Achison, who is spoken about in the same breath as Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan
 overseas but is comparatively unknown here in his home country of Australia.

Geoff AchisonGeoff learned to play listening to the few
 old blues LPs he could find at his local record store.
He heard wah-wah pedals, slides and distortion and had no idea these effects
were done with boxes and pedals so he tried to imitate them with just his guitar.
He developed his own style and practically invented a unique way of playing the blues.
The best guitar player you've never heard of and easily one of the best players on the planet.

Merv, 'Tecoma' and Anton visited Nick Lucas on his houseboat, 'Wasted Daze' at Eildon Boat Club
later in the week.We would like to thank Nick for his hospitality and showing us his breakthrough
fishing techniques. Pics of the trip will be posted on Merv's New Travel Page soon, including Merv waterskiing.

in for his last visit for 2005,

           as well as 3 members of 'Bam Bam', Kristie, Paul and Gep.
                

We discussed the dangers of dogs eating chocolate, cats eating baked beans
and had a call from Melissa at the clinic...Thanks to all at the clinic, see you in 2006.
We featured a few tracks from Bam Bam's 'Pet Hates' EP  including 'Shove It' & 'Girls Kiss Better' which is out now
 on Timberyard records through 'Shock'

in the absence of 'The Webster' ("Dazed")..... joined Merv who filled The Webster's Shoes admirably..*
Grey-ham the pizza man stuck around.. Roach came in early to catch up with BiG Merv & AK,
 and they stuck around for the change over to Purple Haze!..
everyone appeared Dazed & Confused and couldn’t see much in The Purple Haze!
 AK still confused the next morning about who owned the Limo in his driveway......
AK looked a little the worse for wear the morning after
when he was driven home after he couldn’t find his car!
... no one knows where Merv got too..

Victor's7played a slick set of funk rock originals.
Standout songs were 'Music Man' , 'I just Wanna' , 'North Wind', and 'I Wanna Be a Supermodel'
Victor on keyboards and vocals , is complimented by a tight , funk inspired rhythm section,
some fine guitar playing , and the 2 backing vocalists up front add some classy harmonies
 to round out the bands big sound. Slow grooves are the bands forte......a very impressive outfit.

& The Kissingers
opened proceedings with their set of pop / rock originals.

This is a band who know how to put a great pop song together and do their songs justice live.
As you can see below, they have an energy that is infectious...the Tote crowd got to their feet ,
put on their shades and boogied for the whole Kissingers set.
The band won Series 1 of Merv's Australian Radio Idol and the winning song, 'Brainy Stomper'
 went down a storm...  Highly recommended !

The Merv Skilton Show celebrated it's 100th show.
Pete Laffy dropped in again and we  aired the last 4 tracks
in Merv's Australian Radio Idol Competition.
Winners will be announced soon on this page
Pete also played a couple of songs Live to Air on the acoustic, 'Baby Please Don't go' and 'I'm a Kingbee.'

After the show it was off to the Paradise Hotel, (surprise, surprise)
Unfortunately Merv did not make it down to the Para, he was asleep
in the Green Room at 3MDR, after a few too many ales during the show.
Pete went  down with 'Tecoma' and Anton and we had a few ales with Snorter,Ham,Chop,Nigel,Doc, and Gav.
Linda and Pat were behind the bar and we think Mick was busy out the back somewhere.

The World Cup Draw Germany 2006.
Reporter: Horny Whistleblower
  I rose from my bed like a Gazelle, and then the rest of my body followed.  “You’re looking good this morning”,

I said to myself whilst looking in the mirror.  Would Les Murray or
Heidi Klum be the first thing that I would view on
SBS (Super Beaver Station) as I call it.  Luckily for me and thousands of other early risers, it was the German Supermodel Heidi Klum,
 speaking in her native tongue  “How are u and vot ave vee here Horny” was she talking to me,
or was I STILL suffering from last nights vindalooo and copious amounts of red wine. 
Anyway, a bowl of  porridge and a cup of coffee soon fixed up my hangover, and we were set for the draw.

Thirty two countries, eight groups of four, who, vot and ver vood the Socceroos end up playing? 
The draw was about to begin, a tall German with blond hair and blue eyes began the draw
(even Adolf Hitler would have been impressed) “Group F” shouted the German,
zeeee Auzzies vill  play  Brazil as well as Croatia,  and then zee Japs.  “Life is like a lump of cheese,
sometimes it is old and mouldy and sometimes very smelly” coach Guus Hiddink remarked soon after the draw.
 Les Murray added “our biggest game will be against Japan, stopping the legendary Shi brothers Noh and Dip,
will be a hard task, as they are very good around the box” (in fact they are very good around any box). 
The Socceroos play Japan in their opening game on June 12 in Kaiserslauten.

(Senior Coach-Mornington Seagulls Soccer Club)

 Around 40 players swooped down to Dallas Brookes Park,
 Mornington for the annual Christmas BBQ.
 Would it be chicken wings ? gourmet sausages ?
 or maybe Finger Browns famous lamb chops?
 (the same ones from last years bbq which laid low a few of the younger seagull members)
Apparently Finger Browns home made sauce had caused the problem!

The night began with a leisurely game of soccer
and ended with the entire seagull contingent gathering
 in the toilet ruing the fact that they had tasted the home made sauce.
The Seagulls will now have a well earned break
 and will no doubt enjoy their Christmas pudding.
 Remember lads training starts again on the 12th of January
 at Mills Beach in Mornington.

Simply The Best

No I’m not talking about Tina Turner, Merv Skilton or Dolly Parton, I’m talking about George Best,
possibly the greatest player to ever play the game.  Born in Northern Ireland, Best made his debut for the famous
Manchester United at just 17 years of age.  Best then helped a Manchester United team which included
Sir Bobby Charlton to win the coverted Eurpoean Cup in 1968.  United becoming the first English side to win the cup.
 Just 5 years later Best quit United walking away from soccer at the highest level to start a new life consisting of
sex, drugs and alcohol (I’m on a whisky diet, I’ve lost 3 days already) it was a famous line by the late great Tommy Cooper.
 “In 1989 I gave up stamp collecting and eating cheese, it was the worst year of my life” said Horny.
 George Best briefly returned to the game playing for the New York Cosmos, Hibernian and Fulham,
he also played in the local state league here in Australia, however he never returned to the
dizzy heights of the late 60’s and early 70’s.  George Best passed away at the age of 59.
 He will be buried on Saturday next to his mother in Belfast.  George Best was simply the best.
  
Update on Hector Gonzalez Romario:
As mentioned at the end of my last report, Hector has snuck back into the country after being briefly deported back to Chile in 2003. 
 A musician back home, he is now living in Moe with his mother Maria and his four sisters. 
Hector is currently training at Morwell Falcons.  Hector has not given up his ambition to play for Australia in the
 World Cup in Germany 2006.
 
Other Sport:  Mark Hensby?  Has he got Bird Flu or just a case of Mad Cow Disease?

Oh what a night, late November back in 2005 ! Kewell, Viduka, Grella,just three heroes from the
 Telstra Dome last Wednesday night.
 People will be asking each other “”where were you the night the Socceroos finally qualified for the world cup finals
31 years after their last appearance in Germany in 1974. Where were you when Elvis died ?
 where were you when Neil Armstrong landed on the moon,
where were you when Rolf Harris had his Number one hit 'Tie my kangaroo down sport' ? and
 where were you when Merv Skilton broadcast his 100th Show?..
 Yes folks it was that kind of night.
Grown men where hugging each other, some where crying I myself did both
as the Mornington Soccer Club had run out of beer ! The  Socceroos needed to win the 2nd leg of the world cup qualifier
 by 2 clear goals having lost 1-0 to Uruguay in Montevideo 4 days earlier.
The game kicked off and so did the singing
 MORE BEER MORE BEER MORE BEER MORE BEEER MOREBEEEER mOrE  bEeEeEr..
 shut up Horny,  someone shouted.

 The south Americans had two early chances to score through Recoba and Lugano ,however both wasted good chances
 with only mark Schwarzer to beat in the Socceroo goal . The game then turned in its head with Guus Hiddink the newly appointed
 Socceroo coach replacing defender Popovic with the much maligned striker Harry Kewell.
Two minutes after the introduction of Kewell a neat move down the left involving Kewell,Chipperfield,
and Viduka  resulted in a goal for Bresciano.  OLE OLE OLE OLE The Mornington crowd of about 70 sang.
Half-time had arrived it was time for another beer ! In the second half both teams had chances to book their trip to Germany '06
 with Morales going close for the visitors, Culina and Viduka both had chances for the Socceroos.
 Extra time had arrived with both teams level, which meant that if no team scored in the 30 minutes extra time we would go into a
penalty shoot out  and sadly more beer would have to be consumed.
 Kewell scored Uruguay missed etc etc until the moment had arrived when if John Aloisi scores his penalty the
Socceroos would indeed be through to the finals in Germany.
   Yeeeeeeeees ALOISI   the Australian who plays his soccer in Spain scores
and the players, supporters, indeed the whole country went SOCCEROO MAD.
 
What a night, what a game and what a result.
