Aussies go 5-0
Australia completed its 5-0 destruction of the English cricket side today, winning the fifth and final Test match by 10 wickets, needing only 46 second innings runs.
Stuart Clarke took man of the match honours, Captain Ricky Ponting took the 'Man of the Series Award, Warnie top scored for Australia in his final innings , and Glenn Mcgrath took the final English wicket with his last Test delivery, and Justin Langer  remained not out in his final innings for Australia, as Matty Hayden selfishly hit the winning run..
(just kidding big fella)
What a way to go out ...
The series has been described a a whitewash....I would call it a demolition job.
The retiring trio of Shane Warne,Glenn McGrath (and now Justin Langer who announced his retirement during the week)  can celebrate tonight knowing they have served the country well and blessed the crowds with some sensational cricket over their careers. Glenn will continue in the one day team and 'JL' will continue to represent Western Australia, Warnie is heading off to the Motherland to play County Cricket with Hampshire. Damien Martyn has vanished
We wish all 4 our best wishes for the future and thank them for the memories...      .

Thursday December 28th 2006

Shane Warne took 'Man of the Match' honours in the 4th Test
in Melbourne after Australia went 4-0 in the Ashes Series today. In his penultimate Test Match after announcing his retirement during the week. Warnie ended the match with 40 not out with the bat and took 2 last scalps in his last day on 'The G',  after taking a vital 5-39 in the first inningsto destroy the English side.... Centuries from Matty Hayden and Andrew Symonds yesterday ensured the Aussies would win. To do it so emphatically inside 3 days is a testament to how good this side is. Thats is 10 straight Test victories in a calendar year.
Lets not forget the great contibution that Glenn Mcgrath has made as he has now also played his last Test at The MCG, due to retire from Test cricket (along with Warnie ) at stumps in the Sydney Test next week. Mcgrath will see out his cricket career at the next world cup...
These 2 greats are going to leave a big hole in Australian Cricket and it will fascinating to see who can fill the void.

Aussies regain the Ashes and go 3-0 in Series

The Australian Cricket Team have taken just 3 Tests to regain the Ashes after losing them only 15 months ago in England...The shortest period the Ashes have been held by either  country in the history of the Rivalry...
Ricky Pontings XI have finally quietened its critics after Shane Warne took his 699th
Test wicket to spell the end for England. Adam Gilchrist scored the 2nd fastest Test century in history ( in 59 balls)  on the way.  Lets not forget the input from Damien Martyn over a great career. It takes a courageous sportsman to retire mid series and we wish 'Marto' all the very best in the future.
Warnie now looks set to take his record 700th Test wicket at the MCG
during the Boxing Day Test...

Buzz Here...

Well, well, well...

What was that? Getting the Australians a touch peeved, it would seem, is a sure-fire way of sparking them into action.

Final oneOK, we lost – Sri Lanka, while they played well, didn’t actually win.  Five run outs?!?!?
Careless to say the least. And what?
A crowd of about a hundred and fifty – won’t be trying that again I wouldn’t think.
 Thanks Adelaide.
End of story.

Final two Punter and Symmo.  Murili just a bit on the expensive side. End of story.

Final threeGillie and “that” catch from Punter (and Symmo’s wasn’t bad either). End of story.

Now I know I’ve overlooked some bloody marvellous performances by some of the boys
but these sort of games are remembered for the exceptional, and there they are in a nut shell.

Congrats to Brett Lee for being rated the World’s number one bowler.  Eat more Weet Bix kids.

Little bit of domestic stuff and then our blokes are off to RSA so get your Foxtel
subscriptions happening, because if you want to see a bit more on-field carnage it
about the only way you can do it.

Keep you posted,

Buzz.

LATE VB Series UPDATE

Sri Lanka have won the dubious honour today of earning
a place in the finals of the VB One Day series

in the 12th and final at Bellerive Oval, in Hobart.
They batted first and posted a score of 257 off 50 overs, losing 9 wickets.
An excellent bowling display left South Africa reeling
and they could only manage 181, all out, lasting only 43 overs.
After some good performances during the tournament, 'The Proteas' can rightly feel
disappointed they failed at the final hurdle today.

The first match in the best of three finals series is
on this coming Friday at the Adelaide Oval. Stay tuned....

Hi all, Welcome to ' Buzz off the bat'
Buzz on the mic
on 97.1 FM

True to my words of a few weeks ago,
the Australian cricket team is shit-hot.

After my last update the boys performed so badly that I thought my words
were about as valuable as those of a bloke called Churchill who was heard to mutter
after a lengthy binge at a Euro heads of state cocktail party
“that guy Adolf seems like a nice bloke, doesn’t he?”.

Now, other than some dude called Dorey, who has as much chance of finding
a nice spot to pitch the ball as he does of finding Nemo,
the Aussies are a flawless unit. They can rotate all they like, so to speak,
because every combination of players they come up with seems to work.
Gilly is back, as I implied he would be, Lee is amazingly good,
Simmo is still Simmo, Punter is a bloody legend and the boy
Hussey continues to amaze even me.

And hey, let’s all hope Glenn McGrath's missus Jane is going to be OK ‘cause no-one wants that crap happening.

Take care people, catch you next week.

Buzz.

The Allan Border Medal

ineligable due to suspension.Hussey managed the most '2 votes' to take out the award.

THE 'BUZZ' ON CRICKET
Hi all, Welcome to ' Buzz off the bat'

Hi all,

Just because I haven’t been on air for a while doesn’t
mean I haven’t been keeping an eye on the cricket.

Ponting, Symonds, Hussey, Hayden, Martyn.
What the bloody hell is going on?
Why is it that Australian batsmen seem to be so
comfortable scoring runs like
mad bastards while the rest of the world piss-farts around?

South Africa did well, but when push came to shove
Ponting and Hayden spanked their bottoms very, very hard.

20/20 may well have been an expression of Damien Martyn’s
visual capabilities rather than a form of the game as he
non-surgically generated a proverbial new orifice for the RSA boys.

Sri Lanka?  Some players arrive without their bags,
but in this case it appears the bags may have arrived without the players.
What was that? Sri Lanka, winners of cricket’s world cup
through their own pioneering brand of unconventional,
aggressive batting, fell over like the regulars
in the back bar at the Paradise Hotel making a thinly veiled
attempt at chasing Australia’s stupidly big target
(thanks Symo, Marto, Clarky, etc). What next?

Notice anything? No need (yet) to mention Adam Gilchrist,
the greatest exponent of “beat the shit out
of the bowlers” I have ever seen.

(* After publication of this article, Gilchrist proceeded to
go out for a first ball duck tonite and was subsequently
'rotated' from the side for 2 games...shit I hate it when that happens.)

Shape up 'Gilly' I have a reputation to uphold....

Adam Gilchrist in full flight...photo courtesy the Courier Mail

  Adam Gilchrist in full flight

Now those of you who enjoy a contest should pick another sport,
at least short-term, because this summer is going
to be a big fat pile of mess, and one bloke by the name of
Ponting is going to be sitting astride it at the end
with arms full of trophies and cash.

Back shortly,

Buzz.
