astronomical observatory, with telescopes operated by astronomers
from 11 countries. The
combined light-gathering power of the telescopes on Mauna Kea is 60 times greater than that of the
Hubble Space Telescope. There
are currently 13 working
telescopes near the summit of Mauna Kea,
including the largest
optical/infrared telescopes in the world.
